FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: the invention presents a method of inoculation and casting of alloys of non-ferrous metals and a device for its realization. It is dealt with nonferrous metallurgy, in particular, with inoculation and casting of magnesium alloys. The method provides for casting of an alloy in container, inoculation and casting in the casting moulds. Inoculation is exercised in a metal path of a pump outside of the container by its treatment with a variable axisymmetric magnetic field of the solenoid at the alloy passing along a symmetry axis of the magnetic field. Magnitude of induction of a variable axisymmetric magnetic field of the solenoid is maintained in the interval of 0.1 - 0.5 tesla. The temperature of the molten alloy at the treatment by the magnetic field is maintained above the liquidus temperature by 10 °С. The molten alloy passes along a symmetry axis of the variable magnetic field with a speed of 0.1-1.5 m\s. Before casting the alloy is kept settling for no more than 2.5 hours. The device has: a container for an alloy, a source of a magnetic field, the casting molds and a pump with its metal pass located in the alloy container. The source of the magnetic field is made in the form of an inductor of the variable magnetic field and is placed on the pump metal pass outside the container. The inductor is made in the form of a short solenoid with the ratio of its half-length to its radius equal to 0.1-0.3. The metal pass located in the zone of the inductor location is made out of a non-magnetic material. The invention will allow to produce alloys with the fine-crystalline structure, having improved mechanical features, and also to use any types of pumps.
