SUBSTANCE: pre- and post-operative, 3-5-day and 10-th day postoperative lachrymal fluid is examined for proangiogenic vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), pcg/ml and antiangiogenic pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), g/ml. It is followed by determining indices of a risk of progression (IRP) of diabetic retinopathy by the relation of the postoperative values of each factors to the preoperative values. And if each IRP VEGF exceeds 1.2, while each IRP PEDF is less than 0.2, progressing diabetic retinopathy is predicted.

EFFECT: improved quality of management, and respectively adequate treatment prescribed of the patient with diabetic retinopathy following minimally invasive phacoemulsification with IOL implantation with an incision less than 2,2 mm.
