FIELD: power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: fuel rod (100) has end parts (120/130) at each end, comprising bombarded targets. End parts (120/130) may comprise materials, which may be converted into desired isotopes when radiated with a flux of neutrons arising in the position of the end parts (120/130). End parts (120/130) may be manufactured from these materials or otherwise cover these materials. End parts (120/130) may be coupled with different fuel rods 18 and 19 of total length and/or partial length, and may function as upper and/or lower end plugs (120/130), coupling fuel rods (100) with upper and/or lower guide plates (14/16).
EFFECT: operation of a fuel rod simultaneously for generation of energy and for production of desired isotopes.
