SUBSTANCE: according to one exemplary version, the method may include obtaining a first channel quality measurement for a wireless node such as a mobile station or relay station in a wireless network. The method may further include sending, from the wireless node, a full channel quality indicator (CQI) to a base station based on the first channel quality measurement. The method may further include obtaining a second channel quality measurement for the wireless node. The method may further include sending a differential CQI to the base station based on comparing the second channel quality measurement with the first channel quality measurement. The differential CQI may occupy less channel resources than the full CQI.

EFFECT: improved transmission channel quality.
