SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method and an apparatus for transmission power calibration in a frequency division multiplexed wireless communication system (100). The method may include steps of receiving (320), at user equipment (120), a signal from a base station (130) in a frequency division multiplexed wireless communication system, mapping (330), in response to receiving the signal from the base station, a power control calibration region to an uplink symbol in a subframe to establish a mapped uplink symbol using predetermined criteria, and performing (340) a calibration transmission in the mapped uplink symbol for performing transmission power control calibration. The method can also include steps of calibrating (350) transmission power based on the calibration transmission and transmitting (360) data at the calibrated transmission power on at least one other symbol following the mapped uplink symbol.
