FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: system comprises a coal thermal reactor and a power supply source. The reactor comprises multiple electrodes entering from aside, an electrode entering on top, a cover that closes a chamber and having the first opening for reception of the electrode entering on top and at least one additional opening to receive charge supplied into the chamber, and an inner wall interconnected with the cover and stretching in direction to the reactor bottom and at least partially covering the part of the electrode entering on top. The power supply source may supply multi-phase current to electrodes entering from aside and/or the electrode entering from top. Electrodes communicate with the melted bath of the reactor, and multi-phase current supplied to them is sent through this bath for reactor heating. Current value supplied to different sets of electrodes is adjusted to assist the selected heating of the melted bath. Also the method for coal thermal production of aluminium using a coal thermal reactor is disclosed.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of metal production.
