FIELD: production of aluminum by carbothermal reduction.

SUBSTANCE: carbothermal reduction furnace is provided with dividing partition for delivery of carbon material to flow running under it. This partition divides low-temperature reaction zone where aluminum oxide reacts with carbon, thus forming aluminum carbide and high-temperature reaction zone where reaction of aluminum carbide and remaining aluminum oxide is conducted, thus forming aluminum and carbon monoxide. Proposed method makes it possible to supply additional carbon-containing material to reactor and to smoothly distribute it excluding overheating of slag bath and reducing aluminum entrainment.

EFFECT: avoidance of overheating of slag bath; reduction of aluminum entrainment.
