FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method is implemented in the device; at that, an electric arc is excited between an electrode and molten metal contained in a cooled melting pot; charges from disperse oxide raw material and carbon are supplied to molten metal below the level of the bath surface; charge is molten; iron is reduced from oxide molten metal; electromagnetic arc is stabilised; gas is removed from reaction volume and the obtained metal and slag are collected. Charge represents a mixture of particles of titanomagnetite and carbon of equal size ds, the value of which is equal to ds<5 mm. Besides, reduction products including iron and slag are dispersed with gas generated during reduction and transported with that gas in the form of powder and granules from the pot to metal product collecting vessel. Maximum size of particles of the obtained powder and granules is determined from the ratio dp=2.8•10-8·(Go0.5/ds1.5), where Go - supply mass velocity of titanomagnetite, and ds - size of particles of titanomagnetite and carbon.

EFFECT: reduction of power consumption for iron reduction; obtaining metal product in the form of powder and granules immediately during reduction process.
