FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device has a plurality of pixels, which include a plurality of first and second linear orientation controlling structures, arranged on the sides of the first and second substrates, respectively, adjacent to a liquid crystal layer. The first and second linear orientation controlling structures include first and second components which continue along different first and second axes. The second linear orientation controlling structures are linear dielectric protrusions. The display device further includes connecting dielectric protrusions, each connecting two noncollinear linear dielectric protrusions of adjacent pixels. The plurality of edges of the connecting dielectric protrusions continue in directions different from the directions of edges of the first electrode, and include one edge which continues in a direction different from that of the edges of the linear dielectric protrusions.

EFFECT: high flexibility of the liquid crystal display device with multi-domain vertical orientation, without deterioration of display quality.
