SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a composition for coating foam plastic particles and making articles therefrom. The coating composition contains a clay mineral, an alkali metal silicate and a product of emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers as a film-forming polymer. The clay mineral is selected from a group which includes allophane, kaolinite, halloysite, montmorillonite, vermiculite or mixture thereof. The product of emulsion polymerisation of ethylenically unsaturated monomers is selected from a group which includes styrene, butadiene, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, alkyl acrylates, alkyl methacrylates, an amide of acrylic acid, an amide of methacrylic acid and an amide of methylol acrylic acid. In order to make foam plastic moulded articles, foam plastic particles are sintered in a press mould.
EFFECT: using the composition to coat foam plastic particles prevents embrittlement of foam plastic moulded articles, which maintain structural integrity even at temperatures higher than 800°C.
