FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. The method of producing iron (III) oxide involves oxidation of iron (II) compounds. An iron (II) salts are oxidised by adding sodium nitrite in amount of at least 0.65 mole per mole of the iron (II) salt. Alkali is then added to the obtained solution, resulting in precipitation of iron (III) oxide.
EFFECT: invention cuts reaction time and consumption of sodium nitrite twofold or more.
