SUBSTANCE: method is realised by constructing a coordinate system, one of the axes of which is realised by linear scanning of a time signal obtained by pulse propagation between receiver antennae towards the base on which signals received from the source are projected. The disclosed method includes receiving, at the object, electromagnetic field signals of the source with two parallel dipole antennae, lying at a constant distance - base; measuring time between three successive extreme values of the received signals and the time of passage of an auxiliary electromagnetic signal between antennae and determining, based on time estimates, distance of the object from the source, wherein the time of passage of the auxiliary signal is used to create the time base which serves as the axis of the coordinate system which coincides with the direction of the base; signals received from the source are projected on that base; the points of the extreme values used are centres of the extent of the areas of said values and the position of the source is determined in a plane which is orthogonal to the coordinate system constructed on the base and the plane which passes through the base and the source in which the second axis of the system lies. The apparatus which realises the method has an antenna device in form of two parallel, dipole antennae placed at a distance (base), between which a device for measuring linear distance in between is placed, a control unit, a measuring unit, a unit for determining the position of the object relative the electromagnetic field source, a recorder and switches. The control unit includes a reference generator and a device for linear scanning of the measured signals. The listed apparatus are connected to each other in a certain manner.
EFFECT: unifying capabilities and simple method and apparatus realising said method for determining the position of an object relative an electromagnetic field source.
