FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for used in carriers, moving footway or stairway to reveal absent step or unaligned step. In revealing absent step of moving stairway, speed transducer 102 is used to determine drive pulse signal corresponding to carrier speed. Pulse signal of first step 16 at first platform 12 is defined. Pulse signal of second step 16 at second platform 14 is defined. Relationship between drive pulses per step pitch is defined. Phase difference between said pulse signals of the first and second steps 16. Changes in said relationship between drive pulses per step pitch and phase difference between pulse signals of step 16 are monitored. Moving stairway 10, 10a, 10b is decelerated or stopped in response to revealed change.

EFFECT: higher reliability.
