SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a polymer foam material which includes a composition based on thermoplastic polymers, where 75 wt % or more of all non-halogenated polymers in the polymer foam material make up a composition of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers, having polymerised acrylonitrile content distribution with a positive skew, a positive percent difference between the mean and the median copolymerised acrylonitrile content distribution, and mean copolymerised acrylonitrile content of 20 wt % or less. Described is a method of producing foam material, which involves foaming a polymer composition at pressure below the mixing pressure.

EFFECT: obtaining polymer foam material with minimal surface defects even when using a blowing agent containing water and at higher temperatures of the cheek of the slit die.
