FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: backlighting device includes at least one light source; a light guide panel; at least one light input means, having: an input surface which is divided into at least two areas (n≥2); output surfaces, the number of which is equal to the number of areas (n) into which said input surface is divided; waveguides consisting of two parts, which connect areas of said input surface with output surfaces; a light output means; a light-reflecting plate under the light guide panel; optical films over the light guide panel. The number of waveguides is equal to the number of areas (n) into which the input surface is divided. The first parts of the waveguides have lateral surfaces, and at least one lateral surface of the first part of one waveguide is in optical contact with the lateral surface of the first part of the neighbouring waveguide. The second parts of the waveguides are separated from each other and are arched such that the minimum value of the cross dimension of the output surfaces (dmin) of the waveguides is equal to the cross dimension of the input surface (D) of the light input means, divided by the number of areas (n) of said input surface: dmin=D/n.
EFFECT: reduced thickness of the light guide panel.
