FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: according to a method for determining lumpiness for solid material, and namely scrap metal, in an electric arc furnace there determined is current of an electrode, which is supplied to electrode (3a, 3b, 3c) for formation of an electric arc between electrode (3a, 3b, 3c) and solid material. Measure of effective value of certain current of the electrode is determined from certain current signal (I(t)). At that, from certain electrode current I(t)) there determined (32) is current constituent referring to frequency range of certain current of electrode (3a, 3b, 3c), and as value of lumpiness (M) there formed is ratio of current constituent and effective value.

EFFECT: improving forecasting accuracy of state of solid material in an electric arc furnace.
