SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of inhibiting formation and deposits of silicon dioxide and silicate compounds in water systems. The method of inhibiting involves adding to the water system an effective inhibiting amount of one or more water-soluble polymers of formula I , where M is a repeating element obtained after polymerising one or more monomers which contain a polymerisable carbon-carbon double bond; r ranges from 0 to about 5 mol %, s ranges from 100 to about 95 mol %; R₁ is H or C₁-C₄ alkyl; R₂ is a group of formula -(CH₂-CHR₃-O)_n-; R₃ is H or CH₃, or a mixture thereof; and n is a number from 2 to about 25; wherein said one or more water-soluble polymers are combined with a scaling inhibitor selected from a group consisting of inorganic or organic polyphosphates, phophonates and polycarboxylates.

EFFECT: invention enables to inhibit polymerisation of water-soluble silicon dioxide and scaling in drainage systems.
