FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: side wall of a rim is irradiated with two acoustic waves of transverse polarisation of ultrasonic sensors; directions of vibrations in the above waves are oriented in radial and circumferential directions; time of their propagation is measured between side walls of the rim with further calculation of residual stresses. In addition, a sample in the form of a sector part of the rim is cut out of a wheel of the same batch, to which the investigated wheel is related, and its side wall is irradiated with two acoustic waves of transverse polarisation; directions of vibrations in the above waves are oriented in radial and circumferential directions; times of their propagation are measured between side edges of the rim sector, and residual stresses are calculated as per the corresponding mathematical expression.
EFFECT: improving measurement accuracy of values of residual mechanical stresses using an ultrasonic method.
