FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical and metallurgical industry. The method of producing hydrocyanic acid by catalytic dehydration of gaseous formamide involves carrying out catalytic dehydration in one reaction channel of a tubular reactor which is made of multiple parallel layers A and B lying one over the other. Each layer is a plate which is structured by the channels. Layer A is structured by multiple parallel reaction channels with average hydraulic diameter from more than 1 mm to 3 mm, and layer B is structured by multiple parallel channels with average hydraulic diameter of less than 4 mm for transmitting heat carrier. The inner surface of the reaction channels is made of material with iron content of more than 50 wt %, without additional catalysts and/or integral components.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain hydrocyanic acid with high degree of conversion and selectivity in compact reactors.
