FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves preparing material for producing bromine water, electrochemical production of bromine water, preparing a bromating agent by extracting bromine from bromine water with a non-aqueous solvent, treating the butyl rubber solution with the bromating agent in the presence of water and/or bromine water and/or diluted bromine water formed from extracting bromine from bromine water with the non-aqueous solvent, neutralising and washing the bromobutyl rubber solution. The material used for electrochemical production of bromine water is an aqueous solution of an alkali metal bromide or a mixture thereof with bromine-containing washing water returned from the neutralisation step and bromobutyl rubber wash-off and/or diluted bromine water formed from extracting bromine from bromine water with a non-aqueous solvent.
EFFECT: invention shortens the duration of bromation without changing molecular weight characteristics of the obtained bromobutyl rubber and reduces the amount of wastes from the process.
