FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: titanium surface modification by oxidation comprises heating in air, isothermal curing and air cooling to a room temperature. Prior to heating, titanium specimens are strained by dry friction using a cylindrical rider while subsequent heating of strained specimens is executed to 450-650°C.
EFFECT: higher strength and wear resistance due to nanocrystalline two-phase structure in surface layer.
