FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: with the help of an acoustic sensor they measure amplitude of leakage sound in two points of an underground pipeline. Then sonic oscillations are artificially excited, and the amplitude of the sonic oscillations is measured from joint action of a sound generator and leak sound in the same points of the underground pipeline. By the value of the sound amplitudes in two points of the underground pipeline and the measured distance between the points of measurement they determine the distance to the place of leak according to the formula determined in accordance with the invention.
EFFECT: simplified definition of the distance from the place of leak of an underground pipeline.
