FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves: obtaining raw spectroscopic data using a downhole tool; processing the raw spectroscopic data using the downhole tool to obtain a solution which is a result of downhole data processing; transmitting said solution to a surface data processing system; and using the surface data processing system to determine lithology information from said solution. Parts of the spectrum are removed using time information and resultant capture spectra for determining element outputs. A downhole tool for processing raw spectroscopic data is also described. The tool includes: a neutron source; at least one detector for detecting raw spectroscopic data; processing means for processing raw spectroscopic data to obtain a solution which is a result of downhole data processing; and a means of transmitting said solution to a surface location.
EFFECT: high accuracy of obtaining data.
