FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to improved method of obtaining 1,3-dimethyladamantan-5-ol from 1,3-dimethyladamantane. 1,3-dimethyladamantane reacts with bromotrichloromethane and water under impact of salts and complexes of manganese, selected from group Mn(CH3CO2)2×4H2O, Mn2(CO)10, Mn(acac)3, MnBr2, activated with pyridine or alkyl-substituted pyridines with mole ratio [1,3-dimethyladamantane]: [CBrCl3]:[manganese complex]: [H2O]:[R-Py]=100:125÷150:5:6000÷10000:200÷400, at temperature 130-150°C for 5-6 hours.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to perform process in absence of highly reactive oxidizers - aggressive concentrated inorganic acids, reduce amount of waste products, as well as to simplify the technology due to application of available reagents and reduction of energy consumption.
