FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of obtaining 1-acetamido-3,5-dimethyladamantane, which is applied in synthesis of a series of difficult to obtain derivatives of 1,3-dimethyladamantane, for example 1-amino-3,5-dimethyladamantane - active substance of medication "memantine", unique pharmaceutical preparation, effective for treatment of Parkinson's disease, degenerative brain diseases, glaucoma, as well as other CNS disorders at early stages. Method is realised by interaction of 1-bromo-3,5-dimethyladamantane with acetamide in presence of manganese-containing catalysts, selected from the group MnCl2, MnBr2, Mn(OAc)2, Mn(acac)3, Mn2(CO)10. Interaction is carried out at temperature 120-130°C for 3-4 hours with molar ratio [1-bromo-3,5-dimethyladamantane]:[acetamide]:[catalyst]= 100:150÷200:1÷3.
EFFECT: simplification of technology of obtaining 1-acetamido-3,5-dimethyladamantane with low catalyst consumption.
