FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended to determine coordinates of aerial objects from signals of a radar identification system without receiving signals of interrogation radar, the location of which is known. The novelty is detection, based on the time structure interrogation radar radiation of the radar identification system, of signal packets of an onboard transponder with an unknown location, the i-th of which is selected as a "reference", extrapolation of the time of receiving signals thereof, selecting signal packets of the j-th onboard transponder with a known location, calculating the delay time of propagation of signals "interrogation radar - j-th onboard transponder - reception unit" and "interrogation radar - reception unit", followed by transitioning to extrapolation of the time of receiving interrogation radar signals, determining coordinates of the aerial object through the values of parameters of two position lines - elliptical and the line of the constant bearing from the position of the interrogation radar.

EFFECT: continuous determination of coordinates of an aerial object without receiving interrogation radar signals and easy implementation owing to use of two position lines instead of three.
