FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of obtaining norbornene dimers of formula (1a-d) by catalytic dimerisation of norbornene in presence of zeolite catalysts ZSM-12 and Beta at 70-110°C. Method is characterised by the fact, that applied are zeolite catalysts ZSM-12 and Beta in H-form, subjected to thermo-processing at 350°C for 3-4 h immediately before reaction in reaction device in atmosphere of inert gas, after thermo-processing of catalyst reaction device is cooled to temperature of reaction and norbornene in solvent, selected from series CCl4, CHCl3, CH2Cl2, CH3Cl, is supplied in inert gas medium.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to synthesise target products with high selectivity and high output.
