FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to contact welding of steel rails, particularly, those from hypereutectoid steel with high carbon content. In initial fusion, voltage is applied to two rails to be slowly moved towards each other. Local short-circuit currents across welded surfaces cause their heating by resistance heating and arc heating at their fusion. In heating for preset time interval, welded surface are forced in contact. Welded surfaces are subjected to resistance heating. At early fusion, fusion at welded surfaces is partially caused and said surfaces are heated by resistance heating and arc heating at fusion. At post-fusion, all welded surfaces are fused. Welded surfaces are uniformly heated by resistance heating and arc heating in fusion. Compared with early fusion, post-fusion rate is increased or allowance is increased for post-fusion.
EFFECT: decreased thermal influence zone, irregular wear and surface damage.
