FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to neurosurgery and X-ray diagnostics. Spiral computer and/or magnetic-resonance tomography of brain and craniovertebral area is performed. Area of great occipital foramen S1 and total area of displaced into great occipital foramen cerebellar tonsils S2 are measured in axial plane. Coefficient K of brainstem incarceration in great occipital foramen is calculated by formula: K=S2:S1×100%. If K value is to 20%, degree of incarceration is considered to be moderate, in case of from 21 to 30% - considerable and higher than 30% - expressed.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to determine degree of brainstem incarceration at early stages of pathological process.
