FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of extracting fluorine involves feeding a mixture containing uranium fluoride and an oxidant into a reaction vessel with a solid base and an opening facing the base, heating said mixture in the reaction vessel and forming at least one uranium oxide and a non-radioactive gaseous product from the heated mixture. Thickness of the layer of the mixture in the reaction vessel is controlled to achieve the required reaction output and/or required rate of reaction of producing the non-radioactive gaseous product. The mixture used contains uranium tetrafluoride UF4 and a reactant for extracting fluorine, which is selected from a group comprising germanium oxide GeO, germanium dioxide GeO2, silicon Si, boron trioxide B2O3 and silicon dioxide SiO2.
EFFECT: invention increases output of fluorine.
