FIELD: nuclear physics and equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to small-size nuclear power generation system. System includes small-size nuclear reactor, in which control is used in load following mode. Reactor includes fuel assembly of core with metal fuel consisting of one or both of uranium (235, 238) and plutonium-239; a reactor housing comprising a fuel core assembly; metallic sodium, which is loaded into reactor housing and heated by fuel assembly of core; and a neutron reflector to achieve criticality in the core with an effective neutron multiplication factor emitted by the core fuel assembly, maintained at or above about 1. Method of reactor control in load following mode provides connection of neutron reflector with spring or spiral metal elements and use of thermal deformation of metal elements due to temperature of sodium metal used as heat carrier, to control efficiency of reflection of fast neutrons of neutron reflector.

EFFECT: increased safety and simplification of control process of effective factor of neutrons multiplication in load following mode.
