SUBSTANCE: application: in the field of electrical engineering. The method lies in measuring current in power line and assessment of its nature change. According to the method harmonic composition of current is measured and at that distortion coefficient of current curve KIi harmonicity is calculated on permanent basis. Each moment when the current value of the main harmonic component in the power line exceeds value of minimum fault current Ifcmin or value of starting current Isc for asynchronous engine the actual value of distortion coefficient of current curve KIi harmonicity is compared with the previous value. The signal about fault current occurrence in the power line is generated when distortion coefficient of current curve KIi harmonicity decreases.
EFFECT: improving operation speed of protection from currents of one-, two- and three-phase remote short circuits when non-linear electric receivers are available.
