SUBSTANCE: if an early stage of acute optic neuropathy (ON) is characterised by increasing or decreasing the retinal thickness in sectors of the inner and outer annular zones in a combination with a swollen peripapillary layer of retinal nerve fibres, while a later acute and chronic stages of ON is accompanied by developing atrophic changes in the central retina form in the form of lower reflectivity and thinning of the layers of the retinal nerve fibres and ganglion cells, reduced macular volume with an intact fovea and thinning of the layer of the retinal nerve fibres in the peripapillary region, Leber hereditary optic neuropathy is diagnosed.

EFFECT: technique enables differential diagnosis of Leber optic neuropathy from optic neuropathy of the other aetiology at the early stages of the disease prior to the genetic research.
