FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used for differential diagnosis of hereditary optic neuropathy (HON) and optic neuritis (ON). In the third month from the onset of the disease, optical coherence tomography of the retina is performed. The average thickness of the peripapillary layer of retinal nerve fibers is determined. If its value is not more than 86 microns, demyelinating optic neuritis is diagnosed, and if its value is more than 86 microns, hereditary optic neuropathy is diagnosed.
EFFECT: invention provides determination of management tactics, treatment algorithm due to differential diagnosis.
