FIELD: physics, signalling.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for remote monitoring of an area and can be used in detection means with an extended detachable linear part for signalling closure of four-way road intersections. The technical result is higher accuracy of indicating the direction of movement of an offender since a possible pair of directions of movement is determined from twelve directions without increasing the number of detecting means. The method involves installing detecting means at an intersection such that the distance from the centre of the intersection to points of intersection of the detachable linear part with the road is in the ratio 1:3:9:27, determining the direction of movement of the offender based on the sequence of numbers outputting an alarm signal, and the time delay interval between the onset thereof taking into account the possible range of velocities of the offender on the given area and distances between the detachable linear part.
EFFECT: high accuracy of indicating the direction of movement of an offender.
