FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method employs radio or infrared radiation for signalling coverage of four-way road intersections. Three detectors are deployed at a road intersection such that each covers two roads at once, wherein the direction of movement of an offender is determined from the sequence and numbers of triggered detectors using series of two, three or four alarm signals arriving after a predetermined time interval. The direction of movement since the offender appeared on the intersection and entered the detection zone of the detector is determined from the recorded sequence of the numbers of detectors outputting alarm signals, while continuing to record the time interval corresponding to the movement of the offender.
EFFECT: fewer detectors while maintaining reliable detection of an offender.
