FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: reaction is carried out at atmospheric pressure and temperature of 0-10°C in the presence of a catalyst system of sodium hydroxide/aliphatic alcohol/DMSO, with molar ratio benzaldehyde:NaOH:aliphatic alcohol of 1:0.5-1.8:0.6-2, and benzaldehyde concentration of 0.86-1.72 mol/l. The end product is separated by vacuum distillation of the reaction mixture after neutralisation thereof with ammonium chloride and separating solid products by filtering.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain a 1-phenyl propargyl alcohol with high output.
