FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to special electric metallurgy and may be used in production of titanium, tantalum, uranium, niobium and zirconium in a vacuum electric arc furnace (VEAF). Strong electromagnetic field is pulled in a coaxial resonator of the VEAF at a resonant frequency of the resonator by an external high-frequency generator with a system of automatic tracking over change of the resonant frequency of the VEAF resonator in process of melting, simultaneously they stabilise the effective electrode-to-electrode gap, using electromagnetic field, they additionally excite vortex currents at the end of the melted electrode, additionally electromagnetic field is created in the electrode-to-electrode gap with frequency below the resonant frequency of the coaxial resonator of VEAF, using this field, magnetic-sound waves are excited in the arc plasma to create elastic oscillations in the melt at the border of the crystallisation front and to form acoustic magnetic resonance in resonant and magnetic field of the VEAF solenoid.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase quality of metal, to reduce number of processing operations, to reduce consumption of power.
