FIELD: instrumentation.
SUBSTANCE: in a control method of a melting process in a vacuum arc furnace, which involves formation of an oscillating circuit using a crystalliser and measurement of frequency of the oscillating circuit, the latter is formed of an in-series connected crystalliser, a flying capacitor and a consumable electrode with an arc. In the above oscillating circuit there excited are electromagnetic high-frequency oscillations and resonant frequency is measured, as per the value of which the current value of arc length in the vacuum arc furnace is defined, the variation of which is used as a melting process control parameter.
EFFECT: monitoring of arc length during melting in a vacuum arc furnace.
