SUBSTANCE: result is achieved by sharing the processing channel of a received signal with limitation of the level thereof and a linear channel. The disclosed method includes compressing the received signal in a limited channel, comparing the level of the compressed signal with a detection threshold, simultaneously compressing the received signal in the linear channel under the condition that its level does not exceed the allowable value which is set below the level of the received signals which, without compression, may exceed the detection threshold of the linear channel, comparing the level of the compressed signal with the detection threshold of the linear channel and making a decision on target detection if the compressed signal exceeds detection in at least one of the channels. The method also includes automatic adjustment of the allowable level depending on the number of detected signals in the linear channel in accordance with the given false alarm probability level. Devices which realise the disclosed methods are also disclosed.

EFFECT: false alarm probability stabilisation while retaining the capacity to detect a weak signal during partial overlapping thereof with a stronger signal.
