FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to obstetrics, paediatrics, therapy and may be used to determine a stage of iron deficiency both in pregnant women and children, and other social groups. The method consists in the fact that serum iron and ferritin are determined at the same time, and if serum iron is less than 12.0 mcmole/l, and ferritin is 15 mcg/l or more, the first stage of iron deficiency is stated; if serum iron is 12.0 mcmole/l or more, and ferritin is less than 15 mcg/l, the second stage of iron deficiency is stated; serum iron less than 12.0 mcmole/l and ferritin less than 15 mcg/l show the third stage of iron deficiency.
EFFECT: method enables evaluating preclinical normal and deficient iron for diagnostic, therapeutic purposes at the early stage of the disease, as well as observing the response to treatment progressively.
