FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: section for obtaining normal video data obtains, as normal video data, a plurality of video data fragments respectively assigned to a plurality of light sources during normal display from an input video signal. A calculation section performs predefined calculation for the plurality of video data fragments included in the normal video data to generate additional video data which are used in place of the normal video data during further display. A selection section performs, in accordance with an instruction from a control section, a selection process for delivering any of the normal video data and additional video data to a modulation driving section.

EFFECT: providing a display device which can prevent a situation when information assigned to a light source which cannot be turned on is not displayed at all even if some of the plurality of light sources cannot be turned on.
