SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for controlling side rails of a metal strip (1), wherein the side rail on one side of the metal strip (1) comprises the first guide line (2) and the second guide line (4) on the other side of the metal strip (1), wherein the guide lines (2, 4) can move independently from each other, and both guide lines (2, 4) operate with control by position, wherein forces (K1, K2) of the metal strip (1), which act on the first ( 2) and second guide lines (4) are measured, and an estimated position (S1, S2) for the first and/or second guide lines (2, 4) are controlled depending on the measured forces on the first and second guide lines (2, 4) in such a manner that the minimal value (K') of the forces measured respectively on the first guide line (2) and second guide line (4) lies above the selected lower limit force and below the selected upper limit force.
EFFECT: improvement of control effectiveness.
