FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the field of a piston ring and a method of its manufacture. The piston ring, in particular, the compression piston ring, comprises a running surface, the upper and lower side areas, the inner circumferential area and a lock. A thickness of piston ring wall is similar in the circumferential direction, while the running surface is provided with a layer applied by a method of physical vapour deposition or chemical vapour deposition so that a layer of the running surface in the circumferential areas close to the lock feature the lesser layer thickness than in the other circumferential area of the running surface.
EFFECT: invention increases the piston ring reliability.
