FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of determining directivity of radioactive radiation. The method of determining directivity of radioactive radiation includes creating a volume of a metastable extended fluid medium; placing the volume of the metastable extended fluid medium in the immediate vicinity of a radioactive radiation source; determining the position of cavitations caused by the radioactive radiation in the metastable extended fluid medium; and determining the direction of the radioactive radiation source based on the cavitations caused by the radioactive radiation in the metastable extended fluid medium. The apparatus for determining directivity of incident radioactive radiation includes a chamber containing a fluid medium, a control system connected to a mechanism for deforming the chamber, jointly operating to create and maintain a stressed metastable state in the fluid medium which is sufficient to form cavitation bubbles when molecules of the fluid medium collide with incident nuclear particles.
