SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communication. The technical result is achieved due to that handover in a GSM system includes: after a base station controller (BSC) receives a handover detection message, the BSC determines if the speech encoding mode after handover is the same as the speech encoding mode before handover. If the speech encoding mode is different, the BSC sends a first message to a mobile switching centre (MSC) so that the MSC updates the current speech encoding mode to the speech encoding mode after handover, where the first message contains a channel type and the speech encoding mode after handover. If handover is successful, the BSC receives a HANDOVER COMPLETE message from a mobile station (MS).
EFFECT: shorter speech interruption time during handover.
