SUBSTANCE: prior to initiating a call, network controller informs a mobile switching centre server through an expanded complete third-order message about capabilities of speech codecs of wireless cell in which the call is initiated, and mobile switching centre server analyses and compares received information about wireless cell speech codec capabilities with media gateway speech code resources to obtain common types of speech codecs sustained both by the wireless cell and the media gateway, and transmits the common types of speech codecs to the network controller.
EFFECT: codec negotiation between wireless network and base network in a mobile connection system is provided.
