FIELD: tobacco industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a wrapping method and a unit for folding of a wrapping material sheet around a cigarette group. According to the method, the cigarette group (2) and the wrapping material sheet (5) are supplied into the wrapping conveyor mortise (14). The wrapping material sheet (5) is folded U-shaped in the mortise (14) to create an external section (8) projecting from the mortise (14) and an internal section (9) resting on the side wall (6a) of the cigarette group (2). The internal section (9) is folded at 90° relative to the side wall (6a) of the cigarette group (2) so that the internal section (9) is perpendicular to the side wall (6a). For overlaying the external section (8) and internal one (9) on each another and imparting a pipe-like shape to the wrapping material sheet (5) the external section (8) is folded L-shaped towards the side wall (6a) of the cigarette group (2) and towards the internal section (9). The external section (8) and the internal section (9) are thermally welded.
EFFECT: folding unit and the wrapping method allow to eliminate local drying-out and modification of tobacco natural properties.
