DRIFT CHAMBER FOR VACUUM APPLICATIONS Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC G01T1/00

Abstract RU 2529456 C1

FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to drift chambers with thin-walled drift tubes (straw), intended for operation in vacuum, and can be used in experimental nuclear physics for registration and determination of coordinates of charged particles passing through the volume of the chamber. The drift chamber for vacuum applications includes an integral ring with multiple paired coaxial holes located on its lateral surface, and thin-walled drift tubes with anode wires along their axis, from both ends with tightly fixed in them self-centring tips with isolation inserts inside, together with tubes vacuum-tightly inserted into additional bushings, which are also vacuum-tight, but with a possibility of moving, are installed in the cabinet holes, and the tips are also used for delivery to tubes of mixed gas, high voltage to the anode and output of electrical signals. Each tube is connected from two sides with the mixed gas supply system through energy-independent safety valves with input and output unions, and each valve is designed as vertical hollow cylinder with a conic hole in its lower part, where the aligned plug is located which forms the gap and designed with a possibility of vertical movement along the conic hole axis and intended for the valve shutting, while all valves are connected to drift tubes from the side of the conic hole.

EFFECT: improvement of reliability of vacuum chamber.
