FIELD: physics, navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to use of navigation and surveying echo sounders and can be used in calibration thereof. The technical result is achieved due to that the invention proposes to calibrate an echo sounder using a laser calibrating device operating in the blue-green spectral range. A laser pulse in said range is capable of penetrating through an aquatic medium and, after reflection from the bottom, being received by a photodetector. Knowing the speed of the laser radiation through water and the propagation time of the forward and reflected signal, the depth of the point under a vessel can be determined with high accuracy than when using a navigation echo sounder.
EFFECT: high accuracy of calibrating echo sounders and low labour costs on calibration.
